Common Conditions Service

Our Common Conditions Service allows you to speak directly with a trained pharmacist for assessment, advice and — where appropriate — prescription treatment, without needing to book a GP appointment.

This is a walk-in service, making it a quicker and more convenient option for managing certain everyday health conditions.

How the service works:

• No appointment needed — simply walk in

• You’ll have a private consultation with a pharmacist

• If treatment is appropriate, the pharmacist can prescribe medication on the spot

• €35 consultation fee applies only if a prescription is issued

• No charge if no prescription is required

If medication is prescribed:

• It can be paid for privately, or

• Covered under a Medical Card (where applicable)

Conditions we can treat:

Our pharmacists can assess and treat the following common conditions:

• Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)

• Cold sores

• Conjunctivitis (allergic or infective)

• Impetigo

• Oral thrush

• Shingles

• Uncomplicated cystitis (UTI)

• Vaginal thrush

Who can use the service

Eligibility depends on age and medical history. Your pharmacist will confirm this during the consultation.

The service is available for:

• Allergic rhinitis & allergic conjunctivitis: age 2+

• Infective conjunctivitis: age 6 months+

• Cold sores & oral thrush: age 1 month+

• Impetigo: age 2 months+

• Shingles: age 18+

• Cystitis (women only): ages 16–64

• Vaginal thrush: ages 16–60

Some people may not be eligible — for example, if symptoms are recurring or more complex. If that’s the case, your pharmacist will explain next steps and can still offer advice or recommend seeing your GP.
