Private adult flu vaccinations are available at Ballybrack Medical Hall from 5 October 2026.

If you are aged 18 or over and are not eligible for a free HSE flu vaccine, you can still choose to have your seasonal flu vaccination privately at Ballybrack Medical Hall.

Flu vaccination helps protect against the strains of influenza expected to circulate during the current flu season. Because protection reduces over time and circulating flu strains can change, a flu vaccine is offered each year. It takes around two weeks after vaccination for protection to develop.

Who is the private flu vaccine for?

The HSE provides free seasonal flu vaccination to certain groups who are at increased risk from flu or who may be more likely to pass flu to someone vulnerable.

If you do not meet the criteria for a free HSE flu vaccine, you can still receive the vaccine privately if you would like to be vaccinated.

Our private flu vaccination service is available for adults aged 18 years and over, subject to a pharmacist suitability assessment.

Could I be eligible for a free flu vaccine instead?

You may be entitled to receive your flu vaccine free of charge under the HSE programme.

Free flu vaccination is available to eligible groups including people aged 60 and over, pregnant women, healthcare workers, people with certain medical conditions and some carers and household contacts.

How is the adult flu vaccine given?

The adult flu vaccine is given as an injection into the upper arm.

Before your vaccination, the pharmacist will ask you some health questions to make sure the vaccine is suitable for you.

If you currently have a temperature of 38°C or higher, or have previously had a severe allergic reaction to a flu vaccine or one of its ingredients, please tell the pharmacist. Your vaccination may need to be postponed or further advice may be required.

When should I get my flu vaccine?

The flu vaccine is generally available during the autumn and winter flu season.

Ballybrack Medical Hall’s 2026/27 flu vaccination service begins on 5 October 2026.

Getting vaccinated earlier in the season allows time for your immunity to develop before flu begins circulating more widely, but vaccination may still be beneficial later in the season.
